Jean Paul Gaultier x La Perla

Named La Perla Designer Collection, Jean Paul Gaultier's first official lingerie line will make its debut during the designer's upcoming haute couture show. On July 7 in Paris, Gaultier will showcase two limited edition pieces for La Perla—an elaborately constructed satin bra and a garter belt. Having put Madanna in a cone bra in the Nineties, it was clear the designer still had lingerie on his mind when he reintroduced the famous silhouette on his fall runway as outerwear pieces.

“I met Jean Paul Gaultier a few months ago, and we immediately hit it off because we shared a common vision of beauty, style, taste and quality. So we agreed to try this adventure together and unite our savoir faire,” said Alain Prost, chief executive officer of La Perla.

Look out for Gaultier's 27-style capsule collection of mostly handmade corsets, high-waisted briefs, bodysuits, and bras done in pink and black in La Perla and Jean Paul Gaultier stores this November. The collaboration is reportedly a two year affair and will include swimwear next March.

Nike78

NIKE78 is an exciting new project created by Paul Jenkins and inspired by NIKE. Creatives involved will receive a brand new pair of NIKE shoes and will be asked to use sport as inspiration to challenge their function. The project will be documented on this website and after the shoes have been collected, an exhibition showcase is planned for the London Design Festival 2010.”

Some we liked on First Look: Though they make extremely cool looking trainers with the Greek inspiration, Goddess Nike by Tom Easley may not exactly challenge function. While the painstakingly woven Trainers for Voyeurs by  THIS IS Studio look warm and comfortable, but yet again fail to challenge the function with their concept.

New Flash Sales Site Focuses on Indian Fashion

Sure, flash sales are everywhere. But the latest offering, Exclusively.in, really is different from the rest.
Why? The focus is on Indian fashion and culture.
Launched a little over a week ago, Exclusively. In offers singularly unique pieces–at “special” pricing–that you can’t get anywhere else. The site stocks apparel, home furnishings, and travel packages directly from India, which is particularly appealing to Indians living abroad.
The specificity gives the site a focus, and consequently, a slight edge over others that are currently entering the game.

“We want to bring Eastern culture to the Western world,” said Preeti Caberwal, Exclusively. In’s merchandising director,. This idea of East-meets-West style was a very apparent theme in the preview of goods that will be sold on the site. All of the fashion, jewelry, and housewares are a balanced blend of traditional Indian and modern Western style.
Recently, the site has sold items from up-and-coming Indian designers like Namrata Joshipura, Anaikka, and Raakesh Agarvwal. But just like many of its competitors, you’ll need to be “invited” to join, or request an invite directly. Exclusive indeed.

Wooyoungmi AW10

For AW10, Wooyoungmi focusses her attention on creation a timeless men’s wardrobe. Inspiration comes from the silent movie era, a time where stars would frequently communicate with an exaggerated style of dress. The Paris show itself wasset against a live performance of a twenty strong American brass band, provided felt bowtie-bibs, elegant cotton shirting and coats sporting large lapels made of a distressed knits. Here, she explores proportions and the boundaries of a classic wardrobe. There are times on the blog where I might talk too much. I won't fall in to this trap here. These beautiful black and white look book images speak for themselves so why not let them?

Last Summer, The New York Times discussed how South Korea was shaping up as the next hotbed of innovative menswear. Three of the country's most prominent designers have long been creating tailoring with a twist for an international audience just as Seoul itself is becoming something of a fashion center. Juun JSongzio and Wooyoungmi frequently offer traditional shapes in new proportions and juxtapositions, leaving men's fashion lovers the world over a little breathless. For some odd reason they have up and until now been largely neglected on the pages of this blog but no more. I look forward to what these three talents serve up for SS11 later this month.
